Waiting for the spanking worse than the spanking itself
From Bob Anderson's column on 2theadvocate.com:
Anticipation has power all its own
It was a happy event, unless I had been particularly bad.
My mother took care of most discipline, which could range from scolding to sending me for a little time in my room "to think about things."
However, if I did something particularly egregious, I would get the worst punishment, which was the promise that my father was going to give me a spanking when he got home.
I mean it when I say the worst punishment was the promise. Waiting all day for the spanking was worse than the spanking itself.
It was an early insight into what an important role anticipation plays in human misery or happiness.

Which was worse for you: waiting for the spanking or the spanking itself?
